Need A Haircut
I went down to my local barber the other day to get a haircut. But they were much more crowded than normal. No worries. I didn’t have any plans that day. I’d gotten up early that day and finished all my work. I wasn’t in any hurry.
I picked up a magazine and started flipping through it. The magazine was kind of like popular science, not sure of the exact name. I started to read an article about quantum tunneling. The guy who wrote this was using some pretty interesting metaphors.
I was a couple paragraphs in, my interest really starting to get hooked when this guy sat next to me. I looked and nodded as he came in, and something about him caught my attention.
Which One?
For a brief moment, I was torn between the article and this guy. The article had already grabbed me by the second paragraph. I was actually hoping for a long wait so I could finish it.
But something about the guy caused me to nod again when he sat down. He seemed to have a very friendly, very natural charisma about him. Like he had this energy that had zero worry or anxiety, and a complete openness.
But at the same time, it was not an entirely outgoing openness. Like he saw that I was reading a magazine, and he wasn’t going to interrupt me, but at the same time, he seemed to project an energy that said he would be open to any kind of conversation.
Hey, Man…
So I shot out a brief, “wassup,” and he answered in kind. His answer seemed to invite more conversation, and I realized that I could read a magazine article any time. Having an interesting conversation with an interesting person didn’t happen so often.
We started to chit chat about this and that. During the process I realized his clothing was very, very expensive. I didn’t want to stare, and I didn’t catch any brands but it made me want to find out more about him.
So I kind of steered the conversation toward work. I explained what I did and he found it interesting. He said he did more or less the same thing. A bit of business. A bit of consulting, and a bit of investing.
What’s Your Story, Man?
I asked how long he did that, and he told me his origin story. He said he used to have a regular job a few years back. Enough to pay the bills, and buy some nice things, but it came with all the usual worries.
Bosses, coworkers, not nearly enough free time. But most important was this nagging idea that it wasn’t going to be enough. Like he was always playing catchup or something.
The worst parts of the week were Sunday night and Monday morning. The best parts were Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. But not because he ever had fun things planned for the weekend.
Only Pleasure is Absence of Pain
Only because it was a temporarily shutting off of the dull daily pain of the rat race. One Saturday afternoon he was walking around his neighborhood and he saw a garage sale.
It was an old woman who was selling her house. She’d grown up in the house and was moving to a smaller place. She was selling all the junk she’d accumulated over the years.
He picked through all the stuff that was just kind of haphazardly thrown around the lawn and in the garage and found this book.
A Bunch Of Silly Stories?
For some reason he thought this was fiction. He thought this was a set of stories about something. But in reality, this was a collection of magic spells. Not magic spells like on TV that change other people or things.
But magic spells that get into your brain and change how you see things. Spells that change how you perceive things. Spells that change what you believe.
He said he had to read them several times before he could remember them. And once that happened, they kind of took on a life of their own inside his brain.
Not Sure What I Just Read
He explained the first few times listening to these stories was like the planting process. And once the ideas in these stories took root, they started to change on their own. Like the roots of these stories intertwined with the roots of his memories and ideas about himself.
Pretty soon he started to see other people differently. Before, whenever he thought money, or anything related to finances, it was something he wanted and feared at the same time.
Any time he’d done any research, it was always a mix of fear and desire, which he didn’t like. But once these seeds and ideas took root in his mind, it was much easier.
Take Root In Your Brain
He said after these ideas from the book of spells started to grow in his mind, making money was like cooking. Just like you would read a recipe and would take a few times before you learned it by heart, he could copy how other people made money.
He would watch them, and copy them just like cooking from a recipe. That once anxiety was gone, making money is easy. That once he was able to eliminate financial fears, it was simple to make money.
And after trying only a couple of times, it was just like cooking. It still required doing the right steps in the right order, but without any fear, it was simple. Mechanical. He could do it in his sleep.
In and Out
The best part was how easy investing became. Before, he’d look at a stock chart and feel a mix of greed and fear and anxiety. Now, when he looks at a stock chart, it’s like making pancakes. By watching the bubbles you know exactly when to flip them over.
By watching the price movement, you know exactly when to get in and get out.
He says he only spends about two hours a day on what he calls work. He says that once making money became easy, life is actually kind of boring. Before he learned how easy it is to make money, all he wanted to do was buy things he couldn’t afford.
Best Part Is Free
But now that he can afford pretty much anything, he says the best part about life is human relationships. Conversations with strangers you meet here and there.
By that time, it was my turn to get my haircut. While the barber was shaving my head I finished the article about quantum tunneling, a fascinating topic.
A particle will have a huge obstacle in front of it. It doesn’t have enough energy to go through or around it. It just disappears on one side, and appears on the other.
Magic Particles
It’s like the particle is able to see obstacles but it has some magical way of just being able to pretend obstacles don’t exist.
I guess they’re still trying to figure out how to use this information. But they are pretty sure that if you can they use this information, they can make some pretty cool stuff.
