Dive Bar
There’s this bar nearby my house. A dive bar, kind of a community dive bar. I go there because not because I drink but because it’s a very relaxing place to hang out and talk about things that only are allowed to be talked about inside of your local community dive bar.
like what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. It’s the same type of structured rule what happens in the local dive bar stays in the local dive bar. People can feel relaxed to talk about share their opinions without worrying about any kind of blowback.
One of the guys that hangs out there is a local football coach. He’s also an English literature teacher at the high school and he coaches football. They’re not a very good team. The school is not known for their sports they’re more known for their academics.
Wrong School For Athletics
If you are a good football player and you’re at that school you need to change schools.
He has a friend that he keeps in touch with that he went to college with whose also a literature professor in college. They hang out sometimes and sometimes he relies on this literature professor in college to come up with some stories to tell us football players before the games.
He likes to motivate his players by telling them stories and one of the stories he told him to tell them was about this ancient village. This ancient very small kingdom, a long long time ago, that finally, that first arose back before societies got big enough to have kingdoms and empires.
Garden of Eden
This was at the end of the garden of Eden period In Earth’s history where the rich or wealthy foragers could easily find food without having to work but then once the population started to get too big they had to learn how to farm and that was kind of a transition area.
While these small communities were learning how to farm they were growing in size and eventually the they kind of combined together under the rule of one person one Emperor. The Sumerians were the first kingdom, the Egyptians were another. They they had a lot of the Scythian type nomads on the Steppes but it was kind of an interesting period in history.
This is when the story takes place. When the king started to become powerful enough to combine all of these smaller farming communities he went through them one by one and took over them by sheer force.
Don’t Give In To Threats
There was one farming community where they kind of had a set of walls around their land, as did a lot of people back then, to protect themselves. They wouldn’t give up. They wouldn’t surrender. They wouldn’t be able to be defeated and this went on for about 100 years. They had a fairly fortified city.
It wasn’t quite a castle, but it was a strong structure that the most of the people that lived there could kind of hide inside of. So after about three generations of the first royal family in this area they decided to lay siege to this small city and starve them out. So they sent soldiers to stay around the outside of these walls.
Back then they would have this kind of fortified city but inside the fortified area it wasn’t large enough to grow any food they had to still form the line outside of the walls.
None Of The King’s Men
The king’s men figured that if they starved them out they would just wait until they died because all they had to do was surround this farming village this fortified farming village and keep them cut off from their source of food which was the farmland outside of the city walls and they would eventually die.
But they stayed there for 10 years and the people inside of the village never died. It turned out that way back before the time of kings and empires these villagers or their ancestors had discovered this ancient source of power deep within the earth.
If they could retreat to this ancient source of power they didn’t need food they didn’t need water they didn’t need sleep they didn’t need to satisfy any of the normal instinctive needs that the rest of humans needed to satisfy. When they would be near this source of power there would be in a kind of state of heightened meditation or suspended animation or some kind of frozen in time state of being where they could kind of commune together and create a kind of collective consciousness.
Freeze Time
For them it seemed like a moment or two but to the outside world it would be like a year and so this kings and soldiers for decades to try to starve these people out but he never starved them out so he eventually just gave up. This small village was never ever a part of any kingdom because they had this deep source of power.
If you can find this power within you, if you can protect this ancient source of power, this can give you an incredible amount of strength. This can give you an incredible amount of resilience. This can give you an incredible amount of confidence in yourself to withstand all of the outside forces in the world that are that are coming to do you harm.
Because all you ever need to do is retreat inside yourself find this ancient source of power. Use this ancient source of power to sustain yourself and you can wait as long as you need to. Wait until all your enemies are dead.
Perfect Metahpor For Football
Of course this was a perfect story to tell a bunch of high school kids before a football game. Especially when they’re playing a game against the toughest team in the state but they played this game against the toughest team in the state and the toughest team in the state only managed to get six first downs the entire game.
The only score they got was a field goal. This made this football team of misfits kind of heroes for a week because they managed to beat the best team in the state powered by this metaphorical story of protecting the power that you have deep within you.
