Numbers Are Huge
Once I had this chemistry professor.
First day of class he was trying to impress upon us the enormity of the numbers involved in chemistry.
Most of us can’t fathom anything beyond a couple dozen.
There’s all these infographics about how big different quantities of money are.
There’s an old political joke, that keeps getting upgraded.
Maybe fifty or so years ago it was:
A million here, a million there, and pretty soon you’re talking real money!
Then a billion here ,there etc.
Now it’s more like a trillion here and there etc.
Or another political “joke” is that one death is a tragedy.
A million deaths is a statistic.
Flow Of Oxygen
Meanwhile, back to my chemistry professor.
He told us to think about a famous person who lived.
Anybody, so long as they were a real person.
Then to close our eyes, slowly exhale and think of them while we inhaled.
Then he told us to open our eyes and he lowered the “boom.”
That we very likely just inhaled, and exhaled the very SAME oxygen molecule that our role model did, at least once, in their lifetimes.
They say you can’t step in the same river twice.
Meaning every single second the water flowing down the river CHANGES the river.
Even if the erosion is only a couple of dirt molecules (yeah, I know, there’s no such thing as a dirt molecule!), the river is DIFFERENT.
Every time you breathe in and breathe out, YOU are different.
Always Changing
You are the river.
Every time you have a new experience, it changes your memories.
Every time you go into a situation, you must reference your memories to see how you’ll behave.
And since your memories are always being upgraded, YOU are always being upgraded.
YOU are never the same.
YOUR personality is never the same.
Which is why REJECTION must be a hallucination.
Not only can YOU not ever truly know you, nobody else can.

Since this was an ancient recommendation, it kind of presupposes that knowing yourself is a life long endeavor.
You are always changing.
The YOU who is reading this sentence is a DIFFERENT YOU than the one who read the sentences about my chemistry professor.
So, how can rejection POSSIBLY exist?
Who are “they” rejecting?
Here’s a secret.
They, whoever they are, can not reject you UNLESS you are first rejection yourself on some level.
