Pick Up Driver
The first job I ever got in college was as a delivery driver. When I was in high school I had a job delivering pizzas so I figured this would be a familiar job.
It wasn’t really delivery driver it was more of a pickup driver. I worked for this charity that would call people and get them to pledge donations for various charities and we would have to drive and pick up their checks.
This was before the Internet and before any kind of online banking and because this was before the Internet I didn’t have any GPS I didn’t have any devices to use to track where was so I had to call every time after pick about have to call the office on a pay phone since cell phones hadn’t been invented yet.
Payphone and Thomas Guide
They would give me the directions or the address for next pick up and I’d have to look it up in my Thomas guide and drive to the particular location. All of this was happening in a new college town that I just moved to.
I had been sitting there for about five minutes when this guy started to speak to me in Japanese. I had only been in Japan for a few days and I guess he heard me use some of my very basic Japanese that I just learned with the waitress and he assumed I was fluent so he started to talk to me in fluent Japanese.
This was a typical Japanese salaryman getting hammered after work on Friday and so he just talked to me in this kind of drunken Japanese. I just pretended that I understood what he was talking about which was actually fairly easy.
Brute Force Algebra
When I first started studying in college I was majoring in physics so I took a lot of physics and math classes. One of my early math teachers explained that math and physics especially, when you have to use algebra to come up with a solution, it’s much more like sports that it is like studying a typical subject where you have to remember a bunch of stuff and then use those facts and figures and ideas in a way that demonstrate your understanding of those ideas.
Math and physics is much simpler because if you take the time to train yourself in the various types of algebraic techniques it’s essentially like training in any kind of sport. You just practice and practice and practice and the more you practice the better you get.
I went into this one math test like I went into my other math test having stayed up the night before having drank a lot of coffee having just drilled myself on these specific techniques.
Black Arts Hypnosis
There’s a very unknown and potentially illegal type of hypnosis that is not illegal in every state but it is illegal in some states. It’s the hypnosis where they go in and they purposely remove certain memories.
Now on the surface this sounds like it might be something good to do because we all have memories in our past that are very very traumatic and troubling and emotionally painful and we would love to get rid of those memories.
The problem is our memories are connected to each other inside of our brains very much like our relationships are connected to each other outside into the world. There’s the idea of 6 degrees of separation that you can take any two people on earth and connect those two people through six people and six people only.
Kevin Bacon Knows All
This is very similar to the Kevin Bacon theory of separation. If you find any two actors you can connect these two actors both of them through Kevin Bacon through movies they’ve starred in with other actors. The ideas that you can take any two actors and find four or five people that they relate to Kevin Bacon.
Our memory is very much like this because every single memory you have is connected to every other memory you have through very few degrees of separation. The problem is if you’re going to start to remove some of these memories if you are not careful you can create a lot of excess negative memory energy.
When you remove the memories essentially like erasing it with antimatter matter and antimatter, but you have to have the exact same type of matter as antimatter to create a mutual destruction, so when you create an anti-memory made out of anti-memory energy, it has to be exactly calibrated to the original memory.
False Memories and False Personalities
Because most of us don’t remember our original memories very well it’s almost guaranteed that that anti-memory made of anti-memory energy is can it be an incorrect match.
Which means there’s going to be some extra anti-memory energy floating around in your brain and that anti-memory energy will start to consume all of the other memories and because we’re not really sure how our memories are connected to each other this can lead to a cataclysmic collapse of your whole entire memory structure which makes up your personality.
The problem with removing memories as it leaves kind of a hole which can be filled in by false memories. Because this process is not instantaneous it actually takes quite a while, takes a year or two. If you happen to be doing this with a therapist that is leading you through the process that takes a year or two they can be implanting inadvertently implanting false memories in your mind.
How Do You Know What’s Real?
The problem is what you have these false memories in your mind you won’t be able to discern those from real memories because the idea of false memories is really not a valid idea because all memories are essentially false and so you’re taking your original false memories which remember that make up your personality and your replacing them with a lot of other false memories which make up a completely different personality.
The question is as you are listening to these words right now when you think back into your past how do you know which of those memories actually happened and how do you know which of those memories were completely made up either by some entity or buy organic circumstances?
When you start to realize it is really hard to prove stuff from only looking inside your own memory becomes really really difficult to understand exactly who you are.
I Practiced The Wrong Thing
The horrific mistake I made on that particular math test was is not that was not based on just basic algebra. This was a three-dimensional integration of calculus math test. I had to come up with some very carefully constructed hallucinations and then use some mathematical descriptions of those hallucinations and write those down on my paper.
Because my brain was so frazzled from practicing the wrong thing all night long I couldn’t do anything. I literally drew a blank I could not think of anything to write down and I got an F on that test. It was a horrific test, it was probably the worst hour I had ever spent in college.
It was actually a lot easier than I thought to talk to that guy in Japanese or at least respond to him nonverbally when he was speaking to me in Japanese. It turns out if you just ignore the words that are being said there’s a lot more information there than most people realize.
Communication Only 7% Verbal
If you just forget the words of people are saying you can actually have a very good very open very pleasant conversation.
The best part of this job was I was usually by myself I didn’t have some boss breathing down my neck but the worst part was when it came time to go back home to the dorms I had no idea where I was.
I was way out in the boonies. I would frequently drive on these roads for a mile or two or three before I even saw another street. When I saw another street I had two streets. The street I was on and the cross street and I couldn’t recognize either one of them.
Lost Alone and Terrified
I really had no idea what page I was on in my Thomas guy so sometimes I started to get really worried that I would run out of gas before I even figured out where I was and this caused me to have a lot of stress while driving around by myself.
