Outlet Mall Trip
A couple of weeks ago there was an outlet mall that opened up near my apartment. I’m always very interested in checking it out one of the reasons I like going to places like outlet malls is because they have lots of places to sit and think and write.
I like to sit and think and write in places where there’s a lot of activity going on around me. On the other hand if you are to go to the library and sit and think and write every time you looked up you’d see the same stack of books and those same stack of books would have diminishing returns. Pretty soon they wouldn’t be giving you any insights.
If you’re sitting in a place like an outlet mall and you keep looking up and you keep seeing different things around you that will have a lot more effect on stimulating your creativity. I called and over and I was on the way to the outlet mall, about a 45 minute drive.
Lady On The Radio
The lady on the radio was a call in talkshow host. She was a relationship expert psychologist or psychiatrist. I could tell by a few of the callers that she had written a few books because they referenced a few of them when they called. Most of them had the same kind of question. How can I get my girlfriend to have more sex with me. How can I get this girl to like me how. Can I get my ex back. How can I get a girlfriend.
I suspected that this talkshow host was starting to get a little annoyed at these questions because all of the men that were calling in on this particular day seem to think there is some kind of magic shortcut. Some type of secret. Some type of technique that all they needed to do was use this technique. Use this idea and that would change everything.
She took a break from talking to people calling and asking these silly questions. She started telling a story about when she was in college and she took a class in world mythology.
World Mythology
Her world mythology professor explained that whenever you have a large group of people that’s ruled by a small group of people there are two things that the people in charge need to consider. One is how to get power. Two is how to maintain power. Getting power is fairly straightforward.
You need to be extremely ambitious. You need to be vicious. You need to be slightly sociopathic. But once you get power then you have to figure out a way to maintain power. It turns out that maintaining power is not nearly as easy as getting power which is why most dynasties don’t last more than a few generations.
One example she give this was in the early 20th century when the world was exploding in science. This is when Einstein published his theory on relativity. This is when they discovered quantum physics. This is when they started to learn how to use fossil fuels in new in interesting ways.
Age Of Discovery
This is also when they started to make a lot of discoveries about the secrets of human nature. Napoleon Hill, when he wrote Think and Grow Rich wrote an extra chapter that you can’t find today.
The reason they took out this extra chapter was because he actually found out how you can gain an enormous amount of power and very much like the ancient kings and queens who ruled society they don’t like other people having access to power.
The way Napoleon Hill found out these techniques was he interviewed all of the powerful wealthy people at the time and through a careful process of reverse engineering he figured out exactly how they got their power. He found out that most of them got their power by the careful and deliberate use of their sexual energy.
Too Much Information
When he published his book, they all felt betrayed. They all felt as if you are a reporter and he would come to see a company like Coca-Cola and then he published the secret the formula to make Coca-Cola in the newspaper. This would make a company like Coca-Cola very angry because the trade secret is copyrighted.
Something like how to use your sexual energy is something that you can’t copyright. What these robber barons did, what these wealthy people did was a petition the government to make it illegal for Napoleon Hill to teach the secrets. It’s very similar to how the original doctors in 1920s and 1930s started to go to war against homeopathic medicine.
All of these old and ancient cures were essentially outlawed. Now the only kind of medicine we have available to us as a kind of medicine that is made by these gigantic pharmaceutical companies.
One Extra Chapter
When Napoleon Hill first published Think and Grow Rich had had an extra chapter in there that explained exactly how to very easy to follow step-by-step process about how to use your sexual energy to gain an immense amount of power and wealth. The robber barons of the time did not like this one bit.
They petitioned to force him to have to re-release another edition without that extra chapter. That’s the version that you’ll find today. There’s a chapter in there that talks about sexual energy, but it doesn’t explain exactly how to use it. This was just one example that professor of mythology gave of how people in charge will do everything they can to keep power.
You’ll see this in all different areas of society. She said that you’ll find this everywhere. She said you’ll find this everywhere you look you have big powerful people in their prime directive once they get to be big and powerful is to make it difficult for other people to get that same level of power.
Look Beyond Basic Desires
She kind of eluded this back to her talk show when she said these men that were were calling and were looking for the shortcuts and what they didn’t realizes that they were spending too much time chasing their very basic human desires. That was one of the secrets of Napoleon Hill.
We got to the outlet mall and I walked around there for about three hours. I went to three separate coffee shops. While I was sitting in these three separate coffee shops I wrote a lot in each coffee shop. That call-in show and the woman that hosted it had really really sparked my imagination.
I ended up writing about 40 pages of notes in three separate coffee shops.
