A split test is a very useful mental tool.
Split testing is generally a marketing term.
Say you’ve got a website selling shoes.
And it’s converting at 3%.
For every 100 visitors, you get three sales.
But you’d like to increase the conversations.
A very simple way would to be running ongoing split tests.
First, you take the A page, the original page.
Then you make ONE simple tweak.
Maybe change the headline or something.
That is the B page.
So you take all the traffic, and split it evenly between A and B.
You already know that A is converting at 3%.
The B page, the one with the change, will covert at whatever rate it will convert at.
Winner Winner
Let’s say it converts at 4%.
That’s one percent higher.
Because of the simple change.
So B become the new A.
And then you make another change to the new A page.
And repeat the split test.
For a marketing strategy, it’s pretty straightforward.
Make a tiny change, and see what happens.
If the new page converts lower, you get rid of it and try again.
Let’s say you run a split test every week.
And let’s say that one out of four is BETTER.
So you improve your conversions with that one out of four that is better.
And let’s say you keep this up for two years.
Always Increasing
The page is two years will be much different.
And it will be converting at a much higher rate.
This is why the idea of a simple split test is so compelling.
It’s easy and you don’t need to understand anything about psychology.
Just keep trying random things to see what works.
This is very much how evolution works.
The environment keeps changing.
The animals and people living in the environment keep changing.
If they are LUCKY enough, and the random changes they experience keep up with the environment, they get to remain a species.
Otherwise they go extinct.
Super Animal
But we humans are different.
We are nomads.
We can live anywhere.
Mountains, deserts, in the snow, etc.
If we don’t like our environment, we can move.
Or better yet, we are ALWAYS on the move.
That is the one trait that homo sapiens had that no other animal has.
We were never quite satisfied with what we had.
We always wanted more.
We were always dreaming about what was out there.
This is what has driven explorers since the dawn of time.
This never ending desire of what was out there.
Explorer People
What they could do with what was out there.
What kind of empires they might build.
This drive is within you.
Wake up this one, and feel purpose in your life.
And chase your purpose with relentless ambition.
