Cherry Blossom Season
In Japan every spring they have a cherry blossom viewing event. They can’t usually predict when it’s going to happen. The feeling in Japan is very comparable to what it’s like on July 4 in the states.
People go to the park to have a barbecue, they watch the cherry blossoms bloom. Compared to American’s who go to the park, barbecue watch the fireworks. There’s a lot of alcohol involved in both situations.
With the cherry blossoms have an added bit of excitement in that they don’t ever really know exactly when the cherry blossoms are going to bloom. They kind of have an idea within a couple of weeks but they essentially have to wait until the flowers look like they’re ready to bloom.
Last Minute Warning
Then everyone finally puts the last pieces of their plans together and get together and have these parties. Because nobody really knows when they’re going to bloom there can’t be any really big large-scale kind of organized events.
It’s kind of up to each individual in their own kind of group of friends to get together and plan how and when and where they’ll go to view these cherry blossoms. There’s this interesting thing from history called a Malthusian cycle.
If you look at the population of the world over the past 5000 years you’ll see what looks like a very slow rolling sine wave where the population increase, they reach a peak, and they start to decrease. They reach a minimum they start to increase again.
Carrying Capacity Resonance
The reasoning behind this is fairly simple. You have these civilizations that gather around these areas where they can grow a lot of food. The more people they get the more capability they have to grow more food but eventually they reach a kind of maximum carrying capacity for that particular region. Once they reach the maximum carrying capacity for that particular region the population starts to dwindle.
It’s never an easy thing when the population decrease because there’s always battles over resources and strife, a lot of people that die because of the diseases that happen when you have a lot of people in a in a close proximity.
It’s called a Malthusian cycle because of Malthus who came up with an idea that there’s a very strong relationship between the amount of people that can can survive on any type of land and that is based on that particular carrying capacity of that type of land.
Slow Up And Down
When and if you look back to this you’ll see this in an actual increase slowly grew up and slowly goes back down it’s like these long rolling cycles.
There’s this idea in self-development that these moods that we get into a good mood or a bad mood can be kind of a self-fulfilling cycle.
If you’re in a good mood you’ll smile at people and that will cause people to smile it back at you which will reinforce your good mood. On the other hand if you’re in a bad mood and you kind of scowl at people they’ll scowl back at you and that will reinforce your bad mood.
Rats Are Coming
There’s a very very interesting and kind of horrific relationship between this flower in the jungles of Southeast Asia and the small farms around the jungles when this flower blooms in Southeast Asia.
What happens is this particular flower only blooms every seven years and when this flower blooms this flower is a particularly enjoyed food by the jungle rats. Because this flower only blooms every seven years every time it blooms it completely knocks the natural equilibrium out of balance.
When this flower blooms the rat population surges significantly. The problem is the lifecycle of the rat population is longer than the lifecycle of this flower. What happens is these flowers bloom, the rat population surges, the flowers all die but the rat population is still in the jungle.
Invasion
Now the rat population in the jungle is very very hungry and so what inevitably happens is the rats leave the jungle and they absolutely destroy all of these small local farms.
If you’re a farmer in one of the small local farms in Southeast Asia that surrounded by jungle and you see these jungle flowers blooming you know that’s not long before the rats come.
That’s gotta be a particularly troubling thought to think about as you fall asleep at night. As you’re laying there thinking about your future your families future your financial well-being and you know that it’s only a matter of days before the swarms of rats come out of the jungle and destroy everything.
Choose Their Response First
One of the ways you can train yourself to break out of these self sustaining cycles if they’re negative is to train yourself to see another person of in the distance and then see them as being open to your kind of manipulation.
Meaning most people we just kind of walk around and in whatever happens happens but if you see somebody before they see you you can consciously choose what kind of reaction you’d like from them. You can consciously choose to try to create a positive reaction from a smile and a nod or something.
If you start to train yourself in this type of thinking it’s a lot easier to consciously break yourself out of these negative self reinforcing loops if you find yourself caught in one.
Recent Spike
If you look at the long graph of human history over time you’ll see this long slow moving sine wave that represents the Malthusian cycles of history but something very very interesting has happened in the past 300 years.
That is when they discovered oil. The oil represented a huge amount of new energy. A highly concentrated amount of new energy and this allowed humans to get a lot more food out of the ground which allowed the population of humans to absolutely surge.
You see this long rolling sine wave for the past 5000 years in the past 200 years this thing just spikes way up. Even if you don’t know anything about mathematics even if you don’t understand anything about history even if you don’t really understand anything about science, if you look at this graph that one spike at the end looks very very out of place.
Something Big Is Cooking
It almost looks like it is just waiting to collapse back down to where it normally was before. If that happens that means will be a significant die off on planet Earth. Whether that’s going to happen or not remains to be seen.
If you just look at the graph something about the graph looks like something is kind of wrong or something that needs to kind of shift or there needs to be some kind of a leveling off or reversion to the mean. It’s definitely an interesting time to be alive.
Sometimes in Japan the flowers the cherry blossoms will start to bloom around Thursday or Friday. This means that there’s two weekends where they can go enjoy the cherry blossoms.
Two Weekend Special
This is very very out of the ordinary because normally they only bloom over one weekend so everyone’s kind of gets ready once winter starts and is kind of thinking of the cherry blossoms and everyone kind of knows they only have one Saturday one shot to go visit the cherry blossoms.
But when the cherry blossoms on a Thursday or Friday that means everyone has two weekends. It’s almost like getting two Fourth of July’s or two Christmases or two birthdays.
She Acts – We React
Even though we humans think we have invented all of this technology and all of these ways to be masters of our environment, in very very real terms mother nature does what mother nature does and we have no control over that.
