Plastic Boat
There’s a lot of way to create work, from a scientific standpoint.
Nearly all useful work is created by differences in temperature or electrical potential.
But you can also generate work through differences in surface tension.
You take these tiny, plastic boats, floating on water.
They are built so if you put drops of alcohol in the boat the alcohol will leak out the back.
Surface Tension Differential
As the alcohol leaks out the back, it will create a differential in surface tension between the area behind and in front of the boat, which will propel it forward.
There’s a famous story about a farmer.
His son finds a horse, and everybody tells him it’s lucky.
The farmer says maybe.
Then his son breaks his leg and everybody says unlucky.
Then a bunch of other stuff happens, and each time the farmers say luck or unlucky, and the farmer just keeps saying maybe.

You can see this story in a whole bunch of different places.
One of the biggest problems in modern society is something called an instinct mismatch.
Our instincts were calibrated for a much different environment than the one we live in how.
Like hunger.
It used to be a positive trait to eat as much as we could, whenever we could, governed only by the taste.
Good Back In The Old Days
Before, this strategy worked fantastically.
Today, that same strategy will kill us.
I went to a mind control seminar recently.
It was taught by an ex CIA Agent.
Mind Control Errors
He said the biggest mistake students of mind control make is not playing the long game.
Most people decide to use mind control to have more sex.
Some people decide to use mind control to make more money.
Or some people use mind control to become popular.
But this always leads to negative outcomes.
If you use mind control to have sex, for example, everybody will see that you can have sex with pretty much anybody.
Watch Your Reputation
And this will ruin your reputation.
It’s better to use mind control as a long term strategy.
So that when people look at you they think you are good person.
They’ll look and you say positive things to yourself about you.
Like this person is really nice.
Super Genius
This person is really clever.
You should do whatever this person says.
You should do whatever this person wants.
You should really respect this person.
If you do this, then pretty soon you’ll have an army of supports.
What you don’t want is for people to look at you, and say things to themselves like you should have sex with this person.
Play The Long Game
Instead, play the long game.
Wait a least a couple of years.
That way you can run for political office.
That way, when people look at you, they’ll think, you should vote for this person.
You should make this person in charge of everybody.
This Is Hard
Doing this is hard.
Because being able to have easy sex is something that is hard to pass up.
Being able to make easy money is hard to pass up.
Way back in the days of hunter gathers, everybody wanted to get social validation.
But you could only get social validation if you provided something valuable.
Bring Home The Bacon
Like killing a big animal.
Today, we want to get social validation by wearing a nice shirt.
The best use of the farmer story is in the movie Charlie Wilson’s war.
About how the CIA created Al Qaeda during the Reagan administration.
Back then it was good.
But like all things that are good in the short term, they can turn into nightmares in the long term.
Running Out Of Juice
The plastic boats will only move around due to surface tension differentials for so long.
Eventually everything’s mixed together and everybody stops.
This will also happen when the energy runs out.
All the engines will stop.
And we’ll end up back in the pre-industrial age.
Flash In The Pan
In a 1000 years, they might see post industrial society like anything else.
Something that was very positive and beneficial in the short term.
But very, very deadly in the long term.
