Time Loop Chaos
There’s a lot of very interesting, very cleverly written time loop movies. Probably the first popular fictional time travel story was the Time Machine by HG Wells.
Another popular time travel movie that showed the problems of time travel was a story written by Ray Bradbury where a bunch of guys went back in time to see the dinosaurs they made one tiny mistake. When they came back that one tiny thing that they had changed in the past had made the future completely and un-recognizably different.
There is a romantic comedy by Kevin Smith that has a kind of a similar idea in that you have a lot of these movies that have names and it’s not clear whether movies have these names, but you have to pay close attention because there’s usually one event or one conversation that kind of resonates with the theme of the entire movie. That one event or that one conversation is where the movie takes its name from.
Same DNA Origins
If they look at different species and they look into their DNA they can tell which part of the DNA is responsible for which of the species characteristics.
For example, they look at a couple of birds that I’ve split maybe hundred or 200,000 years ago from an evolutionary perspective and they can tell that they have slightly different characteristics. Maybe slightly different patterns in their feathers or maybe a slightly different sound of their song. They can look inside their DNA and they can tell exactly when they split apart.
I had a friend who had a very troubling childhood. In fact it was so terrible he had already made the decision while he was in junior high school that when he finished high school he wanted to leave and never ever come back. He never told me exactly what happened to him as a child but he just said it was terrible it was horrific it was something he didn’t even want to talk about.
Hide From The Past
He wanted to get it behind him as quickly as he could. By the time he was a freshman in high school, he was already researching all kinds of different ways to get grant money for college. His main plan was to get grants to get really good grades to get a scholarship somewhere. His backup plan was to join the military.
But no matter what happened, as soon as he graduated from high school, he was going to leave and never ever come back. He got a grant, he got a scholarship, he got a very good degree from a good school. He fell in love he got married he had kids and he refused to talk about his childhood to his wife.
He told her this at the very beginning of their relationship and she was okay with that. Then when his parents died she gently suggested that maybe he go back and visit his hometown and bring their kids.
Kids Rewrite Memories
Maybe watching the kids play might help him erase his painful past. That’s exactly what they did. At first he was terrified because he thought he would see all of the physical landmarks of his hometown and they would bring back all of the horrible memories from his childhood.
That didn’t happen. Just like his wife predicted, watching his kids play and have fun, oblivious to what had happened to him in his past, they helped him to overwrite his past. Watching his kids play, watching his kids have fun overwriting his own childhood memories with the memories of his own children was enough to make him forget completely the bad things from the past.
Theoretically, once they get enough information from all of the different DNA from all of the different animals, and looking at when they had all their different mutations in the past, they can theoretically put together the original DNA that first started life on earth.
We Are DNA Shells
It’s a very interesting model to think about it from a DNA standpoint. Once upon a time there was no life on earth. Then there was this DNA molecule and this DNA molecule had the curious ability to self replicate. Once this DNA molecule started the self replicate, then it was in competition with other copies of itself.
The way all these different DNA molecules that were in competition with one another responded was by building the shells around each other. The shells and they would use to move around and acquire more resources. Acquire more energy. Acquire more building material for their own bodies. Eventually all these different DNA structures covered by the shells morphed into different types of animals.
Some of them became plants. Some of them became fish. Some of them became birds. Some of them became mammals and some of them turned into humans that could walk and talk and think and plan. According to this pure biological DNA model of life on earth, humans are mere carriers for our DNA and the only purpose of life is to continue to replicate our DNA.
Chasing Amy Origin
The one conversation that talked about the origins of this movie, or the meaning of the name of this movie, was a conversation a couple of the characters had in a bar. One of the characters had a theory that every human or most humans when they’re very young, they fall in love. But this first love never quite works out.
So most people spend the rest of their lives trying to find this one forgotten love in all the other people that they meet. Because this one character’s first love was named Amy, he called this theory his chasing Amy theory. That every human is subconsciously chasing Amy. Every character every human is subconsciously trying to fall in love with the one that got away.
Many time loop movies have this idea that people go back in time and then they make a mistake and they realize that mistake created the future that existed before they went back in time. Sometimes this creates these kind of independent time loop ideas like Planet of the Apes.
Ape Shall Not Kill Ape
They go into the future they see the world is populated by talking apes. They escape back to the present. The talking apes follow them to the present. The talking apes that followed them to the present have a baby that is the first of the talking ape that turns into the planet being taken over by talking apes.
There’s an idea in quantum physics that all particles are really probability waves, probability distributions. Every time the collapse into a singular event they also collapse into every other possible singular event by creating all of these different universes.
There’s a very well respected theory in quantum physics called the multi-verse theory. Perhaps this is why we subconsciously like to see all of these time loop movies where every time they make a decision they change the future and they change the past.
