Once Upon A Time There Was No Money
I’ve always been interested in the invention of money. Once upon a time there was a bunch of people that were anatomically similar to how we are today but they didn’t have any money. Then there came a time where they needed money.
They say that money is some kind of an instinct. That we humans have and you can see this instinct whenever you get a bunch of kids together that are trading cards or something. What you’ll see is a lot of times a kid will have a card that others want but he won’t necessarily trade that card for another card that he wants.
He’ll trade that card for another card that he knows that a lot of other kids want. So this is kind of the first instinctive use of this potential energy money thing. We humans tend to have intuitive sense of we trade for things not because we want those things but because we know we can use those things were getting to trade for other things that we actually do want.
If you go back in history you’ll find all different kinds of this commodity money that is popped up everywhere.
Energy And Matter Equivalence
One of the interesting equations in physics is Einstein’s famous E=mc^2. This is one of the three things he’s famous for. He’s famous for this equation. He’s famous for relativity. He’s famous for the photoelectric effect which is what he won the Nobel Prize for.
E=mc^2 squared is very simple mathematically. But is has some very very profound implications. It’s what’s used to create nuclear energy. If you have a nucleus of a certain atom and you split it in half the weights of both halves will not add up to the weight of the original piece.
There’s some missing matter. If you take a nucleus of a certain atom you split it in half some of the actual matter will just vanish and that vanished matter turns into pure energy. This is where they get nuclear energy from both for bombs and for nuclear power stations.
The Extended Phenotype
We have what’s called a genotype and a phenotype. The genotype is the structure of our genes, actual DNA chemical, DNA molecule. The phenotype is the stuff in our bodies that the genes create. The genes direct our bodies to create in the way this works is pretty simple.
You go out into the world you eat food and your body breaks down food to turn it into energy for you to move around and stuff to build your body with. Some animals have what is called an extended phenotype.
They go into the world and get stuff but instead of eating it and using their internal body parts to turn that stuff into energy and stuff, they turn that stuff externally into into structures.
Programmed To Build
Bees make hives for example. Ants build hills. Beavers build dams. But humans do this also but instead of doing the same thing over and over and over again like beavers and ants and bees we build stuff that doesn’t exist yet.
In order to do this we need money energy as a kind of a potential transmission mechanism between the stuff that we make in the stuff that we get. This is very similar to the idea of trading a Pokemon card, for example, not because you want the card but because you know you can trade this card for something else.
If you need money you go out the world and get a job. You do the job and get money and then you take the money and you can use that money to buy something else. That something else is made by somebody else working for another company.
Potential Future Stuff
The cool thing is as we can make stuff that exists and we know how to make it or we can make stuff that doesn’t exist yet. When you go to work for a company that’s inventing stuff and you can go to work, use your brainpower and your skills to take stuff from the realm of thoughts into the realm of things.
This is what happens whenever companies create new products and you get paid for that you can use your money to pay for what exists or you can save your money and wait until they invent something that you want to buy.
If you get a critical mass of uranium atoms for example, you get a chain reaction. If you get a critical mass, a certain number of atoms, this will create a chain reaction which will release a massive amount of pure energy.
Intention Is Everything
This can be used for destruction of creation depending on what your intentions are.
If you had a critical mass of people together they’re going to get together and create a chain reaction of making stuff that hasn’t existed before and this is going to create a massive amount of energy and stuff and again this can be used for destruction or creation depending on who was in charge of the society.
The parallels of these are very very interesting very very common because we see them all the time but also the things that don’t really make a lot of sense the more you think about them.
Logical Levels
In your house you have a couch and you have a chair. Both the couch and the chair are going to be in the category, the higher category of furniture. In your garage you have maybe a car and a motorcycle in both the car and the motorcycle going to higher order category of vehicles or transportation.
If you have matter and energy they are the same stuff but what’s the higher order category to put both those things in?
Our brains can’t seem to comprehend stuff like this but if you go back all the way back to the very beginnings of the agricultural revolution where humans stopped hunting us and started to become farmers they use all kinds of things as money.
Ancient Money Instinct
This commodity money that was used, they used big huge rocks with holes in them. They used cattle but most often the used gold and silver these precious metals.
If you think of any kind of animal that needs blood to transport stuff and energy around his body you can see big societies are like these organisms.
Money is like the stuff that transport stuff and energy around society it’s like the same structures you’ll see over and over and over again.
Essential Money Instinct
At the base of all of our organic societal structures is this kind of money instinct that we have that no other animal has.
So maybe that’s why humans took over the planet. Bot because of our brains. Not because our ability to make and use tools. Not because our language but because we have a money instinct. We had that extended phenotype that allows us to use the money instinct to create stuff that hasn’t existed yet.
