Lady At The Gym
A couple of weeks ago I had a particularly interesting conversation with a woman that I had first started talking to at the gym. We sometimes end up on the bikes next to each other and one day we were having a interesting conversation on the bikes and both of our bike times ended at the same time.
It seemed like a natural extension to take the conversation somewhere else so I recommended we go grab a cup of coffee. She agreed. We sat down, we went and changed first, then we sat down to get the conversation going.
Tt turns out that she had just recently quit her job as an executive assistant. She had a job as an executive assistant that she got out of college. She been working there for almost 10 years, a little longer, and she was making well into six figures.
Money Is Cool For A Bit
She said it was very very unrewarding. At first it was cool. It was glamorous. She had a lot of high-powered contacts and she met with a lot of high-powered people and she organize a lot of high-powered meetings and she did a lot of marketing and sales assistance for lot of high-powered people but she was more and more unfulfilled the more money that she made.
She started to save up. She started the save of her money and she recently quit and she had just started studying anthropology. This was something that she had always been interested in but never really thought she could make a very lucrative career. When she went to college she decided to study sales and marketing, but now that she saved up a lot of money. She says she’s really really excited to study anthropology.
She just signed up to go on this semester long archaeological dig. It’s not a very important or groundbreaking dig. It’s more of an instructional process of learning how to separate the different layers of of dirt and find the bones and stuff. Take pictures and take data in an properly categorize everything.
Dude Is Intense
She said her professor is really really intense. He has this really wild theory about the origins of human intelligence. According to him there’s really no specific smoking gun reason why the human brain started to get really big when it did.
According to the fossil record we had brains just like all the other primates. There’ve been about 18 different types of primates in Earth’s history and were just one of those primates. So far there’s no obvious reason why our brains started to get really big really quick.
It happened because of some event that happened about 2 million years ago. We had separated from chimps about 8 million years ago so we were just a regular primate for 6 million years not really doing anything other than just being a primate.
Two Million Years Ago
But then something happened. There was some type of event that caused our brains to get really really big really really quickly. This is remarkable because our brains as it is right now her brain is a very very expensive organ.
It costs a lot of calories to keep our brain running. As far as calories per gram our brain is our most expensive organ. But even more expensive is how exhaustingly expensive it is to raise human children. Human children are born with our brains not nearly done being fully cooked.
It takes at least 20 years for our brains to finish cooking outside of the womb after were born. So to have this extraordinarily expensive cost of creating new human children and turning them into human adults there must be some very very very strong reason that caused our brains to start getting so big so long ago.
Origins Of Human Intelligence?
This professor has some very very interesting theories. Inside of our brain there are the structures that are kind of like nanotubes. The internal dimensions of the structures are about the same size that you would need to keep the standing quantum waveforms.
Standing quantum waveforms can serve as probability waves and probability wave quantum wave quantum probability waves are these kind of weird things that don’t yet exist that could exist. This is where they get the idea of Schrödinger’s cat.
If you have a box and inside the box is a cat, in the quantum state, the quantum wave states, the cat can be both alive and dead, but this is to illustrate that as a quantum wave it is not yet reality is only existing in the probability space.
Quantum Probability Chamber
That can mean that this probability wave as it vibrates can turn into anything. One of the ideas from quantum physics is is this idea of the multi-verse. Every time you have this probability wave function and it collapses into a singular event that’s only one of the many different probable events that it could collapse into.
The idea of the multi-verse is every time you have a quantum waveforms that’s a probability wave form that collapses into a singular event it has to collapse into all the different singular events that could collapse into and each one of these different events has to create its own universe.
Every time there’s a collapse of the quantum probability way that creates a whole bunch of different multi-verses every single time. So this guy’s theory is that there’s an idea that humans get together humans have these kind of collective hallucinations.
Hallucinations As Probability Distributions
We can write down these collective hallucinations and these collective hallucinations can be stored and they can be stored as they exist in the probability wave form function. Only when humans get together and take these collective hallucinations and turn them in actual things that’s when this kind of collective hallucination collapses from its probability distribution function into an actual thing.
His theory is that when humans get together we literally create these these combined quantum standing waveforms that represent our overlapped thoughts. His theory is that something happened two million years ago to start this process happening. Something happened to cause our brains to evolve into something that could accommodate such a probability standing wave.
His idea is that is not something that could’ve happened naturally. This is not something that could’ve happened organically. This has to have been something that was caused for a specific reason. Something some external entity some external entity that had at least a 2 million year kind of foresight into thinking what the brain would evolve into to be able to handle the standing quantum probability waves.
Dude Sounds Intense
I can tell when she was telling me this, I could tell when she was describing this to me that this anthropology professor is one of the rare professors that really really inspires curiosity in students. When you listen to somebody like this you can really really start to discover your own curiosity.
You can discover your own theories and reasons why you think things happen and what you often discover are the sources for those reasons. That can be a very very particularly exciting time in your life.
That is one of the reasons she so excited that she’s left her corporate world behind. Even though she made a lot of money in her corporate world she’s very very excited to go find the roots of human existence. The roots of human intelligence. The roots of human life and why we exist the way we do.
