Last Patient
Couple of months ago I went to see my chiropractor and had a very interesting once-in-a-lifetime experience.
I went in on Tuesday or Wednesday night. I was the last customer. I noticed there was a salesperson sitting in the office. I knew he was a salesperson because he was wearing a very nice suit and we had a very large briefcase.
I couldn’t really wonder, I was trying to wonder why he might be visiting a chiropractor because my chiropractor doesn’t usually hardly ever give any kind of medication. He sometimes gives those patches soak some herbal remedy into your skin that stuff you can usually buy over-the-counter you really need some type of a salesperson.
What Are You Selling?
I was wondering what this guy was doing. He said, I asked him if he would be selling said, I’m a transition specialist. I said was that means that I help people make transitions.
I started thinking about the other people in my chiropractor’s office and a lot of chiropractors share with non-mainstream medicine. They have a lot of alternative partners overlapping interests. They sometimes share offices with hypnotists are psychics or acupuncturists are herbalists or other alternative medicine professionals.
I figured he was maybe looking to get some kind referrals. I kind of started to think, I figured it was probably a pretty place to get referrals if you’re in any kind of independent operator that dealt in alternative medicine getting your name in with the local chiropractor might be a way to get referrals from the chiropractor.
Transitions Everywhere
I asked him what kind of transitions he helped people with. He said that life is filled with transitions. We go from college to jobs and go from single to be married and go from being married to having kids.
It reminded me of a documentary I saw about these people that have these very strange illnesses. All of them seem to seem to develop those illnesses as they came up to this very huge kind of life transition usually something they been trying to get for a long time.
One of the doctors on the documentary explained that this is how self sabotage frequently presents itself as it’s the fear of success. You can try for long time to get some kind of position or a career change. In the abstract it seems like something you want but the closer you get to it the more nervous you get about whether or not you’ll be able to handle it.
Self Sabotage
Sometimes these beliefs, these fear of success beliefs, will come across as these the symptoms that can’t be measured or treated by regular medicine. Since they can never really be solved will actually keep you from getting that thing you been going after.
That’s one way that self sabotage presents itself. I thought that’s what this guy was doing. He could help people approach these things and get over their fear of success or feel fear of failure and there’s a lot of overlap between chiropractors and life coaches.
Before I asked him if that’s what he was doing the receptionist nodded to me and I went back in my chiropractor adjusted me and I didn’t really ask about the guy waiting on the we were both walking out since I was last customer we came out the receptionist was dead.
Dead Lady
Her head was face down on the desk. We didn’t know she was dead right away we thought maybe she fell asleep. The chiropractor checked her pulse and she was dead so we called 911 the ambulance came the cops came.
Because his insurance requires him to have a surveillance camera always recording from a much different view points in the office we went to the police station and I was horrified.
It showed me sitting in the waiting room but it didn’t show the other guy that I was talking to. The first thought was that I had some kind of weird hallucination and I killed the receptionist. But then the video showed me walk past the receptionist and she was still alive. The timestamp on the video matched what my chiropractor had written down in his notes when I was in his office.
Who Are You Looking At?
Then the strangest thing happened. While she was sitting there by herself she looked up as if she was talking to somebody. She got this big smile on her face and then she lowered her head slightly and closed her eyes.
It reminded me of when you go to church and you walk up to the front and the priest or the pastor puts his hand on your head you kind of lower your head closure eyes and wait for his blessing that’s what it looked like.
Then she got this really big huge smile on her face, this big gigantic relief this wave of relief kind of swept across her face and then she just kind of put her head down on the desk. We watched the tape several times. We were at the police station for a couple of hours.
I Think I Know Who That Was
Only after we left did I explain to my chiropractor what had happened in the waiting room. That I have been talking to this transition specialist and we both sort of knew who this guy was.
Both of us didn’t really want to say who he was out loud or even talk about it further. We were just standing out in front of the police station. We agreed to allow this thing to slip into our past and never speak of it again.
Why Me?
On the way home I was wondering. Why did he allow me to see him?
