Desperate Client
I have a client that I deal with sometimes on Skype once or twice a month. I don’t normally deal one-on-one with clients for various reasons, but this guy had an interesting story I just had to find out if it was true or not.
I’m coaching him about various sales techniques and he told me an interesting story about somebody he met at a seminar he’s been to a couple different famous motivational speakers trainers sales trainers.
It took him a while to find out that most sales seminars are not really what they seem. Not that way because there’s any kind of inherent conscious deception. It just turns out that what they’re being sold as is not really what people are getting.
He said it’s kinda similar to how back in the days before they invented flatscreen TVs people, companies would sell these big box TVs and they would purposely make them heavier because customers felt better about buying a heavy TV and pay so much money because they felt like they were getting their money’s worth if the TV was heavier.
The Brick Technique
A lot of these sales seminars have kind of learned subconsciously maybe the same trick meaning that the go to a sales seminar and you spend a lot of time having a lot of very powerful emotional experiences you’ll believe that you got your money’s worth.
The problem is you do get your money’s worth, but you’re not really learning any specific skills. It’s more like going to a fantastic concert or religious retreat. You’re there for the experience not for any specific skills.
So this guy started to realize he needed to learn other skills beyond what he was finding out those seminars, but one of the guys at the seminar told him about some of the skills that he learned and this is kind of what set him off on this quest to find the ultimate sales technique.
This guy told him about a seminar he went to and the guy that taught the seminar was not somebody he had ever heard of before. It was not somebody that was famous. He hadn’t even written any books but he had apparently discovered these incredible sales techniques were based on ancient understandings of human nature.
Dude, Seriously?
Now, right off the bat that sounds like some kind of goofy metaphysical thing but he said and he showed him a lot of evidence. Evidence that he makes a lot of money any he showed them pictures of it is not his paychecks but he showed evidence that he does indeed have a sales job he only works 20 hours a week he makes well in six figures.
He goes to these motivational seminars for very strange reason and he learned at the sales seminar some very very powerful techniques to make a lot of money. The problem is this guy no longer teaches you seminars because of something that happened at that seminar that he was at.
That was on the third day. These students have to come up and give a presentation based on some of the skills they learned the previous two days. One of the guys when he gave up to give his presentation said I know you’re not going to believe this.
I know you’re going to think this is absolutely crazy. I know you’re going to think I’m making this up just to make you think this is an interesting story. All I ask is that you listen to this and come to your own conclusion when I’m finished. Please listen to this whole story.
I Am From The Future
I am a time traveler. If you think about the type of technology humans have invented in the past 200 years, that’s a great amount of technology. Somebody from the past, if they came to the present they would be amazed at the amount of stuff there is, so if you can extrapolate this technological growth into the future 200 or 300 years it is not out of the question that humans will invent some type of time travel.
The problem is this creates some fundamental problems in the structure of the universe. Right now there is a widely accepted theory and quantum physics called the multi-verse. This is not some crazy metaphysical hooey, it’s actually based on science. A lot of scientists accept this as a possible way that the universe exists.
What happens is all particles don’t really exist, they just exist essentially as these probability wave functions that are called Schrödinger waves. Essentially most of quantum physics most of the heart, the mathematical part of quantum physics comes in trying to solve this Schrödinger wave function.
What they believe happens, what some people believe happens is when this probability wave function collapses into a single event like the observational particle or when a particle crashing into another particle it has to also collapse and all the other events that could be as equally probable but it can’t happen in the same universe.
The Multi Verse Is Real
Because once a probability function it can potentially be anything, but once it collapses into a single event that one event happens in our universe but all the other potential events they have to essentially create their own universe. Now what this means is there is this main universe that we all share and every single quantum event, it kind of branches off into its own mini universe. Those mimi universes are essentially just one universe with one particle that really lasts for as long as that particle lasts.
The multi-verse theory doesn’t really mean there’s a whole bunch of infinite amount of universes with all filled with people there just like us and every possible permutation you can imagine. It really means that we have this main universe that has an infinite amount of the small branches of these teeny tiny one particle universes that’s essentially what the multi-universe there is.
The problem is when humans create time travel this will create the scenario where the main universe can fold back in on itself and once that happens and to a large enough extent there’s really no understanding from a mathematical perspective even in the future they don’t have the mathematics to understand what the implications of this will be.
One Day We’ll Vanish
The worst case is everything which is the vanishing of the whole universe could just disappear one day nobody would know obviously. The reason I came back from the future is because we need to find people that can help us solve this problem obviously if this is a human invention we can’t suppress human inventions.
Every time in the past that has happened every time you try to suppress human creativity usually comes back a lot stronger somewhere else and so we’ve learned in the future that in order to manage this we have to accept it for what it is.
We need as many smart people as we can to help manage this. This is why we’ve come back. We need to talk to the teacher of the seminar. So the seminar teacher and this crazy time travel guy had a private conversation and the next day everyone asked him about what they talked about but he wouldn’t tell anybody. That was the last seminar that he ever taught.
He Disappeared
No one’s ever been able to contact this guy. It could just be some type of strategy to increase sales, but he hasn’t really sold anything. He hasn’t released any books, no seminars, no DVD’s. He hasn’t made any public appearances.
So by all measures this was an actual event that actually happened. Based on the evidence that this guy shared with my client about how his sales had skyrocketed he can’t believe this guy. This kind of set my client off to try to find these these ancient techniques of sales.
The unexpected outcome was that once you learn these techniques from sales. Once you understand how easy it is to sell things to people, it is so easy to make money. That sales becomes very very boring. Before he learned that these techniques this guy would have a long extended battle. Conversational pitch with the client. He would overcome the client’s objections.
The client would finally be convincing by the contract into the salesperson this would feel like a victory would feel as emotional as a sports victory.
You Are So Money
But after he learned these techniques, after he learned how easy it was to sell things to people not only did he make a lot more money but sales became very very boring. It was almost like going up to a gumball machine, putting a quarter and getting on $100 bill. You just keep putting in quarters and you keep getting out hundred dollar bills.
At first it’s kind of exciting, but pretty soon he gets boring and that’s why he kept going to these motivational seminars because he only has to work 10-20 hours a week. He makes three times as much money used to but he needs to have some kind of emotional satisfaction and that’s why he goes to the seminars.
Need To Find Your Thrill
That’s why my client decided to start looking for these these allegedly hidden sales techniques. He figures if you can find out what these sales techniques are, then you can learn these skills, and you can learn how to sell things to people. You can learn how to make so much money you need to find your emotional satisfaction elsewhere this can be an easy way to make a fat living in sales without having any stress whatsoever.
