I’ve a friend who has been making music for several years, about 10 or 15 years, as long as I’ve known him. He’s only recently started to perform live and I wondered why before he never before live. The music he made was really really good, but he seemed to be content just making the music and and uploading it on the Internet.
I don’t think even never sold his music. So I was wondering why he decided finally start performing live in local clubs and stuff. He told me that he went to this one mixing seminar.
It was kind of an advanced mixing seminar taught by somebody that was highly recommended. During the seminar the guy told him his story about how he became an instructor of music.
Used To Love Science
He said he used to be an engineer. When he was very young he very much enjoyed science. He loved science and he figured he would get a job in science and it’ll be kind of his purpose in life. To use science to make money.
He got a job at this huge company that made all of these products. He quickly found out that the company was controlled by the moneyed interests type people. The salespeople, the owners, the marketing people, the product designers. It wasn’t really a kind of culture that respected science.
It was kind of a culture that saw science as a necessary tool to produce these profitable ideas and devices and products. So he went from thinking that science was this kind of magical thing to seeing science being treated like a set of tools like a set of screwdrivers.
Not A Screwdriver
That made him feel very uncomfortable because his whole childhood was spent in kind of awe of science. Every time he learned a new scientific principle it was like a very kind of spiritual thing for him.
When he got to his adult life and saw this thing that he had a spiritual reverence for being treated as a kind of set of tools that was used to create the next product as quickly and as profitably as possible this was very disconcerting.
He did a lot of soul-searching, but he didn’t quite know how to respond to the situation. He went out to the desert by himself. He went camping and he had never been kind of a religious person. He was very spiritual, but it was more like on of a platonic respect for science kind of spiritual thing not a not a religious deity type of spiritual thing.
Somebody Please Help Me
He decided to open his mind to whatever kind of spiritual ideas were out there for guidance. He sat there and he made himself as open as possible and after a little bit a spirit approached him. He actually saw a woman standing before him.
When he was describing this to the people in the seminar my friend said that he was very serious. They could tell he was talking about something very profound and all he described about their interaction was that she gave me wisdom.
When he said that he had such a profound sense of spiritual truth. When he said that and they could only imagine what actually happened. What happened was this guy went back home he went to his job and he started to study mathematics.
When he was very young he thought mathematics has some kind of tool to understand science but that’s where he realized he made his mistake. He said he should’ve started studying mathematics from the beginning. So he started studying mathematics and essentially taught himself PhD level math theory.
He started to publish these papers anonymously about these advanced mathematical ideas. He published a lot of papers anonymously in these very high level peer-reviewed journals. He was very careful to keep his name as anonymous as possible because he didn’t want anyone to find out that he had this spiritual connection with this spirit guide, this woman.
Once he realized that his goal was to study mathematics and express mathematics he found out that he didn’t want to be publishing anonymous papers for the rest of his life while working for these profit-seeking businessmen that were using science. So he started to study music.
He found that studying music was the most natural way to express a love of mathematics. Because music is something that is absolutely definable by mathematics. Understandable by mathematics. Predictable by mathematics. You can find Fibonacci sequence embedded deeply into a lot of classical sequences.
At the same time this collection of sounds that can be so specifically defined by mathematics can create such undefinable profound feelings in humans. So he slowly switched to teaching music and he started teaching the seminars.
That’s what kind of spurred by friend to try to perform live. He taught at the seminar that it’s up to you to find your purpose. It’s a common human desire to know the purpose of life, to understand the purpose of life, but the truth is that you have to find your purpose yourself. The truth is that nobody can tell you what your purpose is. The truth is that you have to continuously seek to find your true purpose.
When Everything Clicks
When you find your true purpose, everything will click together. You won’t necessarily make a lot of money from your true purpose, but once you discover your true purpose everything will click together. It will be a lot easier to make money. It will be a lot easier to create relationships. It will be a lot easier to become healthy and intelligent.
Until you find your purpose, everything can seem off and even frustrating. It’s up to you to continuously seek your purpose and when you find your purpose you will know what your purpose is. That’s what caused my friend to start performing live.
He had thought all this time that just making music and putting it up on Soundcloud was good enough. All the followers he got, all the positive comments he got, he thought that was enough. Then he decided to try something different.
Try Something Different
When he tried something different, he started to perform live. He saw the real-time, real-life emotional kind of response he was creating in other humans with his music. He said this is gave him of profound satisfaction that was a million times more powerful than just simply producing music and uploading.
Once he started to perform live, when he saw this kind of collective unconscious appreciation for this mathematical sound waves creating all these indescribable emotions in people, he said that was what his true purpose is. He doesn’t even really make a lot of money performing live.
He still has his regular job. He still likes his regular job, but he said once he found his true purpose, which is to perform music live, that’s when everything started to click together.
